what happened to these two items?

Post by -=†ми†=-ฬυ↳ғє₪ on Wed Aug 14, 2013 12:57 pm

After a little searching I have been wondering what has happened to the brass knuckles and sling swag?
Honestly, we have the do it yourself comp and nothing from that. Then we get a new update which you would think would bring something that would involve the brass knuckles and sling since nothing was used. Instead we get a shield, sword, and crossbow; I understand that these items (knuckles and sling) might not have fit with the deathsoar theme but come on? Am I the only one wondering about this? I'm not even a class that uses these items and I'm like W.T.F?

Compared to other Items, Players rarely buy them. There's simply no demand. To top it off, compared to others, they're difficult to theme and shrinking down while maintaining clarity on what they're supposed to be. As such, they get spaced out between sales more than the other Items.

I'm not sure if players realize the sling is the best all-around range weapon, if you don't have archery or oiyoi. So, the sling is the best range weapon for:

-Crafter
-Druid
-Explorer
-Knight
-Legion
-Merchant
-Warrior

That's half of the possible specializations. Add OM to the list, and it's more than half. Personally, I would think the sling would be more popular.

I would think that most players that play those classes have archery and/or oiyoi, not to unlock the specialisations, but because the bonuses from those skills are pretty awesome. I had archery as druid and oiyoi as merchant, thus negating the need for a sling.

That would be somewhat of a waste of points, imo. Getting archery and a bow would only get you marginally better than using a sling, if your play style makes it better at all. All bows have a -3 penalty built into the matrix, and you're just cancelling out the penalty by using three skill points. The true bonus comes from the added class bonus.

The points would be better served in another skill.

I'm an Explorer and I'm only using a sling. I'm a melee fighter but occasionally I have a need for ranged attacks and then the sling comes in handy. Still, I'm not using a swag sling. I've crafted the sling way back and are still using it.

Wow. You're right. I've had another look at the damage matrix, and sling seems to beat both the bows hands down on most monsters even before the -3. I hadn't even considered looking at sling damage in the matrix before, because I (and probably most of PK) were under the impression that it was weaker than both bows. Main reason being that the 'most effective weapons and armor' page of the guide only lists bows as being the best. Also the vast majority of players who don't read the forums wouldn't know about the -3 built in penalty, and would assume that the bows get a non-class stat boost while sling doesn't.

Off to shop for a sling then.. XD

Sounds pretty awesome, gotta look into it too! Too bad I'm a bard and lutes are my primary tools.. ;)

But do bow and crossbow beat sling (and shuri) on range? That's essential in my playstyle (kiting) and much more important than initial dmg before the debuffs kick in..

But brass knuckles... That's a different story.. I haven't studied the matrix completely but it seemed to me that knuckles have little use for thief class (I'm thief) for example. I hope I am wrong, but my knuckles are collecting dust unless used by my trolls..

All range weapons have the same base range. Skill can change that. For example if you have archery, your range with bows would be increased. Otherwise, bows, shuriken, blow darts, and slings all have the same range. However, as a theif, you get +3 damage with blow darts and shurikens. Perhaps a bow isn't the best choice for theif.

A theif gets the same bonus with brass knuckles and daggers. That means brass knuckles can potentially get about +2 to +3 damage on some creatures, namely the magnathere, skellies, gyronts, and other "hard shell" creatures. I'm not sure if you think that's worth it.

According to guide, it's +2 attack bonus. Attack bonus is different from plain damage bonus (as what happened with Tactics few updates back). But definately worth considering dropping archery and going Shuri or Blowdart as a thief. But I'm hooked up to my lutes til the day I delete my account whereas Thief is just a temporary (and fun!) experiment playing different classes. Only my melee weapon changes :)
